The Giara of Gesturi
The Giara is a plateau of volcanic origin.
It is an impregnable and isolated fortress, which stands in a landscape of plains and rolling hills.
It is like an island within an island: that is why its natural environment is so truly exceptional. Basaltic rocks, forests of oak and cork trees, Mediterranean vegetation, rare plant species, wetlands, and, above all, the wild horses of the Giara, an ancient race living still free, only in this area.On the edges of the plateau remains of 23 Nuraghi built by ancient inhabitants of Sardinia (II millennium BC).
